Humanities in the City classes are created to support your road to college. We offer expansive learning experiences to prepare you to succeed in first-year college classrooms and beyond. Our goals are to help you feel confident and excited about your ability to thrive as a critical and creative thinker at college and in the world.

Get Involved

In class, we read, write and discuss ideas about ourselves and the world. Poets, writers, historians, and activists visit to share how the humanities inform their work. We also visit galleries, film centers, literary readings, archives and environmental organizations to see how the humanities are alive in our communities. The program includes opportunities to share your work at a public reading event and to publish your writing. All students receive a Certificate of Completion.

“I feel more aware of what college texts will look like, thus I think it would really help me in the future. I see myself hoping to have meaningful conversations about philosophy and human nature. My confidence has improved, and in preparation for college, I feel this program has significantly altered my perspective on college writing in a positive light.” - Katelynn, student
